***Cover Reveal*** Jenny's Blue Velvet by Angela Carlie

Jenny's stuck.

She's tried just about every occupation she can think of and will be digging out of student debt for a very long time, but has nothing to show for it. Her everyday routine feels like a prison. And her marriage? Well, let's just say it's been a little one-sided lately and the money she threw down on the toys from Lover's Erotic Store was well worth it and then some.

Jenny decides her next big step is to become a romance writer. Romance books are flying off the virtual shelves, after all. This will be her big break, her escape from the prison, and a way to freedom. Self-publishing is all the rage these days. She'll be a best seller in no time.

When Jenny makes friends with a woman named Cassandra from the gym, she instantly decides that her new friend will make a perfect main character in her upcoming book. After the first chapter, real life begins to resemble the fiction she's writing. Her friendship blossoms, sex with her husband turns into a daily feast, and her job gets more interesting with each chapter written.

Out of the blue, a person who is a close friend with her husband and who is dating Cassandra disappears. As the mystery behind the missing person unfolds, Jenny wonders if she might be responsible for his possible death. And if she is, what will be the consequence? What has this writing business gotten her into?

JENNY'S BLUE VELVET is a dark, humorous, romantic thriller for adults only

Facts about Angela Carlie

I write fiction. I work hard. I play often.

When I'm not pushing a mouse around at a desk job, which is boring, or writing, which is fun, I enjoy hanging out with my fourteen-year-old son and husband, reading, hiking, kayaking, traveling, and running.

Hawaii and Washington are my two favorite states.

I believe that if everyone ate a whole-food plant based diet, cancer cases would be a minimum, heart disease a thing of the past, and hunger something found in history books.

One of my favorite documentaries is Forks Over Knives.

I love hearing about people reading my books, so if you enjoyed one of my stories, please let me know by leaving a review on Amazon or Goodreads.

Thank you for spending time with my stories. We don't have much of it and I appreciate that you find my work worthy of your time.

***Blog Tour Partial Review*** Invisible by Cecily Anne Paterson

Jazmine Crawford doesn’t make decisions. She doesn’t make choices. She doesn’t make friends. Jazmine Crawford only wants one thing: to be invisible.

For Jazmine, it’s a lot easier to take out her hearing aid and drift along in life pretending that nothing’s wrong than it is to admit that she’s heartbroken about her dad dying. She’s been drifting and ignoring her over-worried mum for four years now. But something’s got to give – and soon.

When bad girl Shalini and her mates adopt Jazmine, she follows along without thinking but quickly finds herself part of their plan to vandalise the drama classroom. Jazmine manages to save the key prop, a jewelled headdress, before drama teacher Miss Fraser walks in to find a room full of destruction. Later, sitting in disgrace in the principal’s office, Jazmine is offered a choice: become a ‘runner’ for Miss Fraser in the upcoming production of The Secret Garden or face a three week suspension and a permanent mark on her record.

It’s Miss Fraser who clinches the decision. “I believe in you Jazmine,” she says. “I know you can do this.” And Jazmine, terrified, disbelieving and elated all at the same time, joins the play and leaves her invisible life behind.

For a while it’s all good. Writing in the new journal that Miss Fraser gives her connects her to the memories she has of her father. Drama star and chocolate lover Liam is friendly and Jazmine realises that making friends, talking to her mother and feeling her emotions isn’t as scary as she thought. In the play, Jazmine becomes the prompter and a stand in and discovers to her amazement that she loves the stage and has a natural talent for acting. In a final happy twist of fate, acting diva Angela breaks both her ankles and with only a week before the curtain goes up, Miss Fraser asks Jazmine to take on the main role of Mary.

But it’s not quite as good as it seems. Jazmine is still fearful and doesn’t want to give too much away. She can’t quite believe that Liam likes her, and is worried that if people knew what she was really like, they wouldn’t want to be her friend.

But then Shalini returns from her suspension. In her mind, she has been betrayed. She’s out for payback, and she expects that Jazmine is going to do what she’s told, or else she just might expose her greatest secret...

Partial Review

Now I've been ill for the past few weeks so my posts have pretty much stopped but with this book being part of a blog tour I've been trying my hardest to read it. However I'm only on page 44 of my PDF copy and I'm due to post so I'm going to try my best to review what I have managed to read. I'm also really sorry that even this post is a bit late. I really am ill.

Okay so something I do like is the flow of the story. There's a nice rhythm to it and if I was able to concentrate I have a feeling this is the sort of story I'd devour. It's easy to read Jazmine's POV and I personally think she's quite relateable. I mean we all try to shut off our pain and fail. The fact that I can comment on the flow while I have 0% concentration says a lot about the book in itself.

Another thing that I'm really enjoying is that some of the chapters are just Jazmine's diary entries. Books in diary format are something I appreciate a lot. I guess it's because I've always wanted to keep a diary but never managed to consistently write down how I feel. This book has inspired me to give it another go. Maybe I should do that.

Jazmine is one of the most interesting main characters I've come across in a while. All that she's been through would leave their scars on any person but Jazmine has to cope with it while having difficulty hearing. While she should technically be difficult to relate to since she's locked away her feelings and is just rediscovering them I can completely get her point. I'm going through something similar myself right now and feeling less alone is always good.

The book talks a lot of The Secret Garden now I have a confession, The Secret Garden is one of my all time favourite books. I first read it when I was a kid, my mum always encouraged my love of reading and to this day children's classics are books I really enjoy and this book is reminding me of that so much, that even in my unable to concentrate state, I want to dig it out. I may have to settle for the film though.

I'm really enjoying the story and I thought I wasn't taking it in properly but it seems to have stuck in my head. Even though I'm not finished I definitely think that you should all go pick up this book. It won't cost you a penny because it's free so it's not like you'll lose anything if it's not for you. So yes, join me and read this beautiful story.

Cecily Anne Paterson is what they call a TCK, or a third culture kid, which basically means she grew up overseas and has some weird issues. Now she’s a mostly normal Australian living in a small town in New South Wales, although her four children don’t wouldn’t necessarily agree with the mostly normal bit. She’s been an editor, a communications officer, an ESL teacher and now a writer. Her ambition is to write two young adult books a year for the next ten years.

***Book Promo and Giveaway*** Runners by Sharon Sant

Elijah is nothing special. He’s just a skinny kid doing his best to stay one step ahead of starvation and the people who would have him locked away in a labour camp - just another Runner. But what he stumbles upon in a forest in Hampshire will show him that the harsh world he knows will become an even more sinister place, unless he can stop it. As past and present and parallel dimensions collide, freedom becomes the last thing on his mind as he is suddenly faced with a battle to save his world from extinction.  But before Elijah can find the courage to be the hero the world needs, he must banish his own demons and learn to trust his friends. And all the while, the sinister figure of Maxwell Braithwaite looms, his path inextricably bound to Elijah’s by a long dead physicist, and hell bent on stopping Elijah, whatever the cost.

Elijah finally opened his eyes, but lacked the strength to move. Darkness, heavy and insidious, held him.  He wasn’t sure if it was night.  Perhaps he had gone blind.  With this last terrifying thought he began to gulp shallow breaths, desperately trying to swallow the hard knot of panic in his throat. And in the midst of this, from somewhere close by, he gradually became aware of whispering.
‘Bet he’s got tokens.’
‘Bet he had tokens.’
‘Have a look while he’s still out.’
‘Don’t you dare!’
‘Alright, there’s no need to get stressy.’
‘Those kids looked pleased with themselves.  If he had any, he hasn’t got them now.’
‘He’s been out a long time.  You don’t reckon he’s…’
‘Nah.  Give him another half hour, if he doesn’t come round we’ll have to clear off.’
‘Leave him?’
‘Don’t whinge at me! It’s not my fault. We’ll leave a few clues or something so he gets found, if it makes you happy.’
‘Xavier, you can’t.  He’s a Runner!’
‘He might not be.’
‘He is.  Look at him.’
‘Even if he is… so what?’
‘The CMO will pick him up.’
‘Do you want them to pick you up?’
‘No… but…’
‘Right then.  Half an hour.’
The conversation faltered. They sounded like young voices, but he couldn’t be sure.
A Runner. The word crashed into Elijah’s consciousness. It hadn’t occurred to him before but, he supposed, that was what he was now.
With an almighty effort, his arm responded, propping him up to sit.  But even that small exertion had been too much.  He leaned over to his side and vomited.  Shivering, his head spinning and icy sweat erupting from every pore, he passed out again.

Xavier leaned against the wall of the alleyway and folded his arms.
‘We’re not taking him with us.’
‘But, Xavier –’
‘There’s enough of us as it is.’ He cast an appraising eye over the unconscious boy.  ‘I don’t trust him.’
‘How can you say that?  You don’t even know him.’  The speaker was a girl with long, blonde hair.
‘I don’t need to know him.  He’s a Runner.’
‘We’re Runners!’
‘That’s different.’
‘How?’
‘It just is.’
The boy on the floor groaned.
‘He does look in a bad way,’ said a second boy. ‘He might die if we leave him here.’
‘Not my problem,’ Xavier said.
‘Jimmy’s right,’ the girl cut in.  ‘What if you had said that about Rowan?  Think of all the ways he’s helped us out since we met up with him.  Maybe this kid could do the same, maybe he’d be good for us.’
Xavier nudged the boy with his foot, but he didn’t stir. ‘I doubt it.  He looks as though he’d just eat everything we have and then scarper.’
The girl looked down at the injured boy with a pained expression.  ‘Please, let’s just take him back to the cottage.  I couldn’t bear it if I found out something had happened to him and we could have helped.’
Xavier sighed.  ‘Alright then. But don’t blame me if he steals everything you own once he wakes up.’
‘I don’t own anything,’ the girl smiled.
‘You two can carry him if you’re so desperate to get him back.’ Xavier threw a last glance at the figure on the floor and then turned to leave.

Sophie McKibbin finds herself back in Sam Crawford’s life after ten years. Unfortunately, Sam is dating Lola, Sophie’s high school nemesis. Lola dumps Sam the day before he was supposed to introduce his mystery girlfriend to his family over the Fourth of July holiday. With family feuds, an old flame, and feelings that have been locked away for a decade, there is bound to be some fireworks.

"Fireworks" is a short story.

Lindsey Gray dreamed of being several different things as a child such as a doctor, an actress, and a chef, but none held her attention like putting pen to paper and creating her own world through words. She has written three full-length novels and one short story for The Writer's Coffee Shop Publishing House and is now taking the self-publishing leap with her novella, "Fireworks".

A mid-west native, Lindsey enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, reading almost anything she can get her hands on, and making life interesting at each and every turn.

***Review*** Once Upon A Tag by Anna Adams

On the Back of the Book

When David, a young French painter, unexpectedly meets Rita, an infamous Parisian street artist, his convictions are shaken to the core during a night he is unlikely to ever forget.

Pre Read Thoughts

I'm Choosing This Because:

After I review Anna Adams' first book, "A French Girl in New York" for her she asked if I'd review "Once Upon A Tag". I said yes but heard nothing back. A few weeks later I received another email off Anaa informing me that "Once Upon A Tag" was going to be free on Amazon if I was still interested. Of course I was and so I got it. I've finally got it and I'm looking forward to reading it.

Judging a Book By Its Cover:

The cover's a grower. I've only just started noticing how nice it actually is to be honest. It's very old fashioned looking yet with an urban twist due to the spray paint and graffiti. The bright colours and classicness of the cover definitely make it stand out once you've really sat back and taken in all of the different elements of the design.

Pricing the (Possible) Awesomeness:

Now after a quick search on Amazon, this book is currently retailing at 77p. Which is cheap. It's only a short story so obviously there's no print copy. I got my copy from Amazon during a promotional thing where the book was free, so though the author asked for my review I had to get my own copy so my review will be as untainted as always.

Post Read Thoughts:

Since this is only a short story this is going to be a mini review. Otherwise we could end up with a review that gives too much away.

I found this to be a charming and cute story. One of the things that I enjoyed most about Anna's full length novel, "A French Girl in New York" was her actual writing style and that's a fact that continues with "Once Upon A Tag". While the length means that it's really quick and easy to read, (no seriously, it's perfect for while you're having a cup of tea and a biscuit) I'm sad that it's so short. I feel that there could be so much more to the story and would've definitely kept reading if it had been longer.

David - He's very snotty towards Rita at first and I didn't like that. It just seemed unfair to judge her even though she was doing wrong with the street art and all that.

Rita - She's very defensive when David confronts her but I have to say as she works out plans in her head she really warms up. Of the two main characters she was definitely my favourite. I loved how gutsy she was and how vibrant and alive she was.

Overall this is definitely a short story I would read again and again. Even though it only took a few minutes to read, I got a snapshot into an underground world in Paris that I want to dream of. I loved the twist at the end of the stories when it came to the characters and thought it was a clever addition to the tale.

My Rating

4 stars - charming, cute, but not perfect. I would've liked more. Wanting more is a great achievement for the author but as a reader I felt short changed. I could've grown attached to those characters and the chemistry they were building up. Definitely recommended to those who love YA contemporary tales that don't eat up all you time. So what are you waiting for? It's only 77p!!
